Small fixes, big difference: What's New in Our Next Release

Sometimes it's the little things that make your day easier. We've been listening to your feedback and focusing on those small but important improvements that remove friction and help you get work done with less effort. Here's a few of the improvements coming in our next release, due later this month:

Reporting – The Fee Earner Snapshot report now supports custom date ranges, so you can view performance for the exact period that matters to you.

Disbursements – By popular request, you can now export disbursement detail directly from the matter, no extra reporting needed.

Trust/Client Account – To make things clearer, Earmarked Funds have been updated to the more widely used term: Protected Funds.

Requisitions – Speed things up with text templates in the Reason field, letting you drop in your most common narratives without typing them out each time.

Work Items – to make things clear and obvious, work items included on a draft invoice now have a state of Draft Billed, rather than drafted.

Each small change is about saving you clicks, time, and frustration — so you can stay focused on the work that matters most.

Client Expectations Are Evolving Faster Than Your Systems

In 2025, client expectations are moving faster than many law firms can keep up. In almost every part of daily life, people have grown used to instant access, clear communication, and smooth service. They can track parcels in real time, receive immediate banking notifications, and book healthcare appointments online.

Yet when it comes to legal services, clients often encounter something quite different: delays, unclear updates, and systems that feel behind the times. The gap between what clients expect and what many firms deliver is growing, and that gap has real consequences for reputation and client loyalty.

A Changing Standard of Service

Clients are no longer impressed by legal expertise alone. They expect that expertise to be delivered with efficiency, clarity, and consistent communication. When updates are delayed, billing is confusing, or progress is hard to see, clients notice.

Across the legal sector, surveys have shown that poor communication is one of the biggest reasons clients choose not to return. Even when legal outcomes are successful, the journey of getting there leaves a lasting impression.

The standard has shifted. Today, speed and transparency matter as much as legal knowledge.

Why Many Firms Struggle to Keep Up

Law firms work hard to meet client needs, but the systems supporting that work are often the problem. Some firms still rely on outdated processes that slow them down. Others take the opposite approach, investing in broad “one size fits all” systems that claim to do everything but rarely perform well in specialist areas.

The reality is that each department in a firm has its own requirements. The needs of a finance team are different from those of a conveyancing department, just as litigation teams require different tools from those working in private client. Trying to force every area of the business to use the same limited software often creates more friction than it removes.

The Value of Specialised Tools

Modern firms are increasingly recognising the value of specialist applications. A conveyancing team benefits from tools designed for property transactions. Finance departments require software built with compliance and reconciliation in mind. Document automation, reporting, and client communication each have their own best-in-class providers.

The challenge is no longer whether to use these tools, but how to connect them. Without integration, firms risk creating silos where information sits in one system but cannot easily be shared with another.

Connectivity Is Now the Priority

The real progress for firms comes from choosing the right software for each department and ensuring those systems can connect. With the right integrations in place, specialist tools can work together to provide a seamless flow of information across the business.

This means:

  • Finance teams have accurate, up-to-date data without double entry
  • Case teams can access relevant updates without delays
  • Clients receive clearer communication and faster responses

Connectivity ensures that while each department has the specialist tools it needs, the firm as a whole operates with consistency and efficiency.

Meeting Expectations

Client expectations will continue to rise as technology in other industries raises the standard. Law firms that rely on outdated or disconnected systems will struggle to keep pace. Those that embrace specialist tools, supported by strong integration, will be able to deliver the speed, clarity, and reassurance clients now expect.

In the end, success is not about adopting the biggest system or relying on a single platform to do everything. It is about choosing the right tools for the right jobs, and ensuring they work together to deliver the kind of service clients already take for granted in other parts of their lives.
